Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy: the world is filled with it. Unfortunately, it runs rampant in my apartment. And I just needed to say that this is getting ridiculous and old.

So stop it.

A Question

Why is it that people always do the opposite of what they say?

Thanks for being there for me.

....Not.

Study Break

This past week has been both awful and awesome.

I got to spend a great weekend at home with my parents- the great part.

My roommate's boyfriend broke up with her, my other roommate got into an accident in other roommate's parent's van, and I have 5 midterms in the next 2 weeks- the godawful part.

It's really amazing how much we can get done under pressure and stress, though. Although I haven't done a whole hell of a lot other than study, my plate is full with helping other people with their problems and Phi Sigma Pi rush events. The first I don't really mind, so long as the person appreciates the help and time I'm giving them. Which doesn't seem to be the case right now, but maybe, in time, the person(s) will learn to appreciate it. The latter is almost just as stressful as the former: choosing who is going to join the most dysfunctional yet loving family you've ever had is a big responsibility. And this week is the last three events, followed by a night of cut-throat voting. Which brings me to today's word...

VOTING. When you vote on something, it's your opinion- not a fact or a given. It's what or who you want to happen, and you have to accept that other people may not have the same feelings as you. If someone close to you doesn't get a vote or is being discussed, don't take it personally: it's not a reflection of you or what you think. It's a movement of the majority because they think different things and have different opinions. And they are probably less biased, because they have no connection to the person in question. So please, don't get in a huff and throw a hissy fit because you didn't get what you wanted. Isn't that the lesson of democracy and what you were taught by your parents as a child? What the majority needs should be the best thing for the mass, regardless of your individual needs. (Isn't it funny how politics are involved in EVERYTHING?) Listen to what other people are saying and take it into consideration, even if you don't agree. Look at things from both sides- then decide what's best.

Which, actually, is related to the whole "helping others out" thing. You have to decide if what you're doing is helping, or if your help is being asked of but not considered. And if you're one of the people who are doing the latter, you need to go and think about what matters to you: self pity... or friends.

Friends?

You know what gets me? People- friends- who want credit for what they do, but won't give a shred of credit or thanks for things that others do. I can't and won't name names, but it really gets me when you've waited hand and foot on someone and then they turn around and pretend like nothing was ever wrong and go on saying how good their lives are because of things that others have done.

When a friend tells you that they can only be happy when so-and-so is around and you're sitting there trying to make them feel better, it really gets to you. "So, basically, you really only have your friends around when your boyfriend won't be with you?"

Does that not make you want to scream?!

Poltics aren't politically correct.

Politics are one of my secret interests.

In the past two weeks, the Castros (yes, of Cuba) announced that communism was no longer working for their country. That's one step closer to being about to visit one of our closest country relatives. President Obama decided that whining about the Republican party "not liking him" would be good to broadcast to the entire country. And news reports are saying that our current government is the most bipartisan one to grace this country. Which brings me to my topic for the night: the need to revamp our government.

Bipartisan government is not working for our country anymore. The two major parties are irreconcilable at this point; the bickering is never going to stop. It seems like no one remembers that the two were once one, united against a common enemy: Federalism. Yes, the Democratic-Republicans reigned two hundred years ago as a single party... look at where they are now. The Republican party is laughed at because many of its forerunners are conservative woodpeckers who have nothing else to do but to spout their own Christian beliefs. And this coming from a girl with a purely Republican background- I'm just pointing out what's obvious and wrong about it. And then you have the Democratic party, who do nothing but point their fingers at the Republicans and say they are the reason for the ne marche pas of the American government.

But really, when you get down to it, it's everyone's fault; it's no one's fault. Neither party has turned out anything truly great in the past few years. I think it's time for a government overhaul that ends with a reboot of our system. Including the way we vote.

This is going to sound radical- but stick with me. I think there should be a test before you vote. Just a simple, 5-question quiz that would test the voters' knowledge of the platforms, candidates, and policies. It would be computer generated so no one could tamper with it- so everyone would have a randomized quiz, no bias. If you don't pass the quiz, you don't vote. That gives incentive for voters to actually LEARN what they're voting on, so they don't just vote based on a bias. I know a lot of people would fin a lot wrong with this. But if there was a way to make it work, it would be the greatest thing to hit the U.S. since South America.

The Inaugural Address

I am different.

Every person has a right to say this, because of course every individual is just that- an individual.

But it seems that nowadays more and more people are becoming the same- broken promises, false pretenses... a facade. More of us need to be different and not be ashamed to say "I disagree!" and, more importantly, "NO!". So, that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to write about my last year at university and the views and ideals that go along with it. And if you don't like them, go write your own blog.

But this is the naked truth as I like it.
